USIU-A begun their title charge by a 6-0 pounding on Parklands at the Nairobi City Park yesterday in the KHU (Kenya Hockey Union) League season opener.
It was a dominant performance by the students with Gabriel Teimuge grabbing a hatrick in the match. Teimuge puts his team ahead in the 11th minute after being laid off by Alex Kubasu. Kubasu was to double the lead two minutes later. Captain Brian Makhoha converted a penalty to make it 3-0 with Makoha and Teimuge’s double late on completing the route.
In the same venue, Butali Sugar started off the defence of the tittle with an emphatic 3-0 win over Greensharks. Seth Odongo, Barnabas Odhiambo and Joeren Stoel were the scorers last evening giving the champions a perfect start.
In other match Strathmore University (Gladiators)came from behind to beat Wazalendo 3-2 at the same venue. Fidelis Kimanzi and Kennedy Mnialo had put Wazalendo ahead only for Festus Onyango’s brace and a Clayson Luvanda penalty to hand maximum points to the Gladiators in the closely contested match.
