Starlets hot as they prepare for the Banyana Banyana test

Harambee Starlets overcame KEMU Queens 2-0 in a high tempo build up match that was played in Safaricom Stadium Kasarani on Sunday July 7th afternoon.  The team has been in camp at Kasarani for 3 weeks now in preparation for World Cup Qualifications where they face African Cup Of Nations Semi-finalists Banyana Banyana of South Africa on July 18th in Johannesburg.

 

Harambee Starlets overcame KEMU Queens 2-0 in a high tempo build up match that was played in Safaricom Stadium Kasarani on Sunday July 7th afternoon.  The team has been in camp at Kasarani for 3 weeks now in preparation for World Cup Qualifications where they face African Cup Of Nations Semi-finalists Banyana Banyana of South Africa on July 18th in Johannesburg.

The goals that were scored by Neddy Atieno and Essie Akida saw the World Cup hopefuls maintain their winning streak. The Starlets had played Thika Queens 3 days ago and humbled the Premier League Champions with a 5-1 drubbing.

David Ouma the coach of the national side was pleased by the outcome but admitted there was a lot to be done. “We wanted to play Thika and Kemu because they are league winners and try to gauge ourselves. We are working on closing gaps and converting aerial balls into goals.” Said the tactician who has been working to achieve much fitness of the ladies and their technical abilities as well.

“South Africa are a very technical side and quick in their play so we need to match that.” He added.

After eliminating Botswana with  a 1-0 win a month ago the coach has continued to bring in new players to improve on the depth of the squad. The new additions include Joan Akoth (Oyugis), Ennez Mango and Cate Syprine (KEMU), Linda Auma, Celestine Mwende (Mwingi Queens), Maureen Shimuli (Thika Queens), Saumu Nekesa and Felistas Kadai (Kisumu Leeds), Sharon Omulo, Vivian Akoth (Makolanders).

Ouma is also hoping to play Seychelles and Tanzania in a week to test his team as well as integrate the new players.

The coach hailed the Ministry of Devolution for their step to adopt the team and ensuring they resumed training in good time.

The Starlets will play Banyana Banyana on Dobsonville Stadium, Johannesburg on 18th July at 1500 hrs.
