AFC Leopards midfielder Ray Omondi scored a brace as his side marched to a comfortable 3-1 wi over Zoo Kericho on Sunday September 10, 2017 at the Kericho Green Stadium.
Omondi only needed four minutes to take Ingwe ahead, clasping on to the ball to direct Ingotsi’s well-taken corner into the net for his first goal. Leopards almost doubled their lead in the 10th minute but a superb fingertip save by custodian Samwel Koko denied Ndung’u a place in the score sheet.
Oburu then saw his long range short go inches wide five minutes later before play being temporarily halted as Victor Majid went to the ground with an injury.
At the half hour mark, Ray Omondi completed his brace with a second goal which as a result doubled Leopard’s lead amid light showers. The rains slowed down the pace of the game, with the two sides playing two additional minutes before heading into the break.
Ten minutes after the restart, Vincent Oburu made it three for the visitors after connecting to Ingotsi’s through ball and navigating his way past his markers to slot the ball home.
Zoo had a chance to reduce the deficit in the 71st minute but were denied by the goal post following a free kick of the edge of the 18-yard box. Their first low moment of the game however came four minutes later, Ingotsi laying down injured and was then hauled o0ff as he could not continue with the game. His place was subsequently filled by Alexis Kitenge, with Duncan Otieno and Harun Nyaka also replacing Omondi and Ndung’u respectively.
Nicholas Kipkirui netted a consolation goal for Zoo in the dying minutes but his effort was enough to salvage anything for the hosts.
The win takes Leopards’ point tally to 27, leapfrogging Mathare United to settle at position 13 on the league table.
