A towering defensive talent from Eastlands Maringo estate, George Waweru’s soccer talent was evident since his high school days at Ofafa Jericho High School.

He represented Ofafa Jericho High School well in the Nairobi provincial soccer games during his secondary schooling life. Jojo could play in the central defence or as a defensive midfielder. Besides his defensive prowess,he was good on the set pieces especially outside the 18-yard area. His height gave him an edge in aerial ball duels. The defensive maestro played for K.C.B, AFC Leopards SC, Tusker F.C & Posta Rangers F.C in the local league before his retirement.

He had a professional stint in Sweden before jetting back to kenya. George Waweru received numerous caps to the national team where he partnered with Musa Otieno in the central defence. He was part of the last generation of Kenyan players to play at  the AFCON during the 2004 edition in Tunisia. In the continental showpiece, he played alongside Musa Otieno in the central defence.

The glittering career of the Ofafa Jericho High School alumnae nearly came crashing in 2004 during an  AFCON match against Mali in Tunisia where he  suffered a neck injury following an aerial duel with Malian talisman Frederic Kanoute. He later recovered and continued with his career.

Jojo won several accolades especially with Tusker F.C  including the league and CECAFA Club titles.
