Non league side Hippos FC on Sunday the 26th of March showed the other side of football with a visit to the Alpha Blessed Children’s Center in a charity event.
Hippos FC, led by the Team Manager Raymond Odhiambo, joined the children at the center in a clean-up exercise before donating food stuff and cloth ware to the center. This was Hippos’ second visit to the center and just one among a number of Charity events the group has planned for the year.
“We were here last year in December, we made some promises and so today we came to honor those promises.” Said Caroline Atieno, the event coordinator, while speaking to Kenyanstar shortly after the event.
“We had several of similar events last year and we have more lined up this year. We are ambassadors of Kenyan football and by doing this we believe we are looking out for the future fans, players and even administrators of kenyan football.” She added.
“Further, when we visit children like these ones we encourage them to work hard in their studies or anything else they do and to not expect any short cuts in life.” She concluded.
Like other franchise fan teams, Hippos FC was formed in 2014 in the run up to the Inaugural KPL Fans Fun Day and brings together fans from top Kenya premier League sides; AFC Leopards, Gor-Mahia and Tusker FC. Hippos have since played in two finals of the Fun Day’s 7-aside football tournament and are the reigning champions having won the 2016 edition.
