Tusker FC completed a double over Nakumatt FC thanks to substitute Boniface Muchiri’s second half strike in a match played on Wednesday October 18 at the Ruaraka Grounds.
The defending champions started the match with much intent but were forced to slow down their tempo in the 14th minute after Jackson Macharia went down with an injury. After a brief first aid by the medical team , the midfielder was not able to continue and was subsequently replaced by Cercidy Okeyo.
Unconverted chances by Humphrey Mieno and Allan Wanga are what followed shortly thereafter to force a barren draw into halftime.
On resumption, Nakumatt’s defense came more composed and did well to cut out advances mostly from Mieno and Wanga who tried combining well in search of an opener.
Tusker deputy coach John Baraza then opted to freshen his attack in the 67th minute by introducing Boniface Muchiri for Brian Osumba. Their second substitution saw Stephen Owusu replace John Kago seven minutes later.
In the 75th minute, Mieno was unable to find the back of the net despite having only keeper Owade after he had been fed through by James Situma.
Muchiri however secured the lead for the Brewers one minute later with a sublime half-volley that really mixed up Owade, with the match ending with the 1-0 score line.
The victory moves Tusker three places up from sixth to third where they now have 46 points. Nakumatt meanwhile remain 12th on the log with 35 points from 29 matches.
