Jose Mourinho has suggested Marouane Fellaini will not be available for Manchester United’s Premier League match at West Brom on Sunday.
Fellaini, 30, has not featured since the win over Brighton on November 25 and Mourinho said the United midfielder had a ‘chance’ of returning for the Manchester derby defeat to City last week.
However, Fellaini failed to make the matchday squad for the visits of City and Bournemouth on Wednesday and United manager Mourinho said ‘it’s the same picture’ when asked if any players were available to return at The Hawthorns this weekend.
Paul Pogba will serve the final game of his three-match suspension against West Brom and could return to the side for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final tie at Championship club Bristol City. Captain Michael Carrick, who has not played in three months after undergoing a heart procedure, is still not ready for selection.
Mourinho confirmed on Friday Eric Bailly would have surgery on an ankle injury which could keep him out for up to three months.
“He goes to surgery, the decision is made,” Mourinho said. “I don’t say for the rest of the season but it’s for the next two or three months.”
Marcos Rojo could also miss the trip to West Brom after he sat out the Bournemouth win with a head injury. Rojo required stitches after a clash of heads with City forward David Silva last week and was forced off at half-time.
The probable absences of Pogba, Carrick, Bailly, Fellaini and Rojo leave Mourinho with a 22-man squad to choose from this weekend.
