Kenya Police officially confirmed Technical University of Kenya (TUK) as the first relegated team this season following a 7-0 thrashing of the students in a Kenya Hockey Union men’s Premier League match on Tuesday December 12, 2017 at the City Park Stadium.
The opening minutes of the match were a clear contrast of the score line as TUK started off as the better side, pinning the league leaders to their own half and their defenders clearing any ensuing Police attack.
A sixth minute strike from Police skipper Oliver Echenje however proved to be the pivotal point of the match, with the goal seemingly affecting TUK players mentally which resulted to a drastic fall in share of possession.
The opening goal seemed to have opened the gates, Samuel Wokila doubling his side’s lead in the 23rd minute before goals from Victor Wekesa and Calvin Kanu made it 4-0 just past the half hour mark.
The match eventually turned into a rout, Vincent Odindo also getting his name into the score sheet as Wekesa and Kanu completed a brace each to seal the 7-0 victory.
The devastating loss sums up TUK’s maiden top-flight season where they have just managed one win so far with only four games left. Sitting bottom of the table with only eight points, the students are already relegated meaning that they will be in National League next season.
Police meanwhile take their point tally to 67, 16 ahead for second placed Butali as then season fades fast.
In other Premier League games on Tuesday, Parklands Sports Club ended their two match losing streak with a precious 2-0 over a struggling Chase Sailors side as Wazalendo thumped Sikh Union Nairobi 4-1.
