AFC Leopards’ pre-season preparations continued blossoming with a 2-1 win over Ugandan side KCCA FC on Thursday January 24, 2018 at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Joseph Kuria got Ingwe rolling twenty four minutes into the match with a well-taken header that originated from Marvin Omondi’s cross on the right flank.
Leopards ought to have gone into the break with a two-goal cushion but a goal by Erick Bekoe was ruled offside in the 38th minute.
KCCA came into the second half more lively in a bid to snatch an equalizer, but their opponents were having none of it especially at the backline. In the 85th minute, Leopards extended their lead through Jeffery Odeny, who produced an incredible finish to double their chances of earning a victory.
Herbert Achai grabbed a late consolation goal for the Ugandans but time was over for them to get back into the game. The win is Ingwe’s fourth of the pre-season.
Robert Matano’s side is gelling up for the upcoming 2018 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season where they are looking to improve an eighth place finish they managed in the previous campaign. Getting them underway will be a game against Posta Rangers on Sunday February 4, 2018.
They however come up against perennial rivals Gor Mahia FC in the Super Cup before the 2018 KPL season. The clash is scheduled for Sunday 28th January at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
Meanwhile, KCCA continue their friendly matches in Kenya against Sofapaka on Friday 26th January in Narok. The Ugandan giants have so far recorded two losses and one win, having gone down to Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards but can find solace in the 1-0 win over Tusker FC.
