Ladies’ Hockey: Unstoppable Telkom Whip Amira

Telkom edged closer to retaining the Kenya Hockey Union women’s Premier League after seeing off Chase Amira 5-1 in a match played on Tuesday December 12, 2017 at the City Park Stadium.

Telkom edged closer to retaining the Kenya Hockey Union women’s Premier League after seeing off Chase Amira 5-1 in a match played on Tuesday December 12, 2017 at the City Park Stadium.

The league leaders needed only eleven minutes to get going, with Jackline Mwangi opening account for them before Barbara Simiyu doubled the lead in the 34th minute.  Goals by Audrey Omaido, Lillian Aura and another one from Jackline took the scores to 5-0 before Yvette Kanyandong netted a consolation goal for Amira late on.

The win takes Telkom’s point tally to 48 and they now need only four points from the remaining four games to be crowned this year’s champions. Amira meanwhile drop to third on the log with 34 points from 17 matches.

In another ladies’ fixture, Strathmore Scorpions were also big winners following a 6-0 victory over lowly University of Nairobi (UoN) side.

Gilly Okumu was key to the triumph as she grabbed a hat trick that was added onto by goals from Lynn Ayuma, Winnie Ingati and Denise Odongo.

The win saw Scorpions move two places up the table to second with 36 points, relegating Chase Amira and United States International University of- (USIU-A) Africa Spartans to third and fourth place respectively.
