Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Women’s Premier League defending champions Telkom moved to within one point of reclaiming the crown they won in 2016 after being handed a walkover against University of Nairobi (UON).
The students failed to honour the league match as they are currently involved in the ongoing Kenya Universities Sports Association (KUSA) games in Nyeri. This prompted Telkom to be awarded a 5-0 victory result, taking their goal tally this season past the 100th mark to 103.
The result leaves the leaders with 51 points from 17 games, 14 more than second placed Strathmore University Scorpions. A win or draw in their next fixture against Multimedia University (MMU) early next year will see them secure a 20th league trophy with two games to spare.
On Saturday, Strathmore University Scorpions ravaged a chance to cement their place in second place after being held to a 1-1 draw by Sliders in a league match played at the City Park Stadium.
Christine Mmbone had given Sliders the lead six minutes into the game before Gilly Okumu equalizing for the learners seven minutes later. The draw takes Strathmore’s point tally to 37, four ahead of third placed Chase Amira while Sliders leapfrog Vikings to sixth on the log with 22 points from 17 games.
