Kenya's Ulinzi Stars will face Egypt's Smouha in the round of 32 of the CAF Confederation Cup. This is after Ulinzi Stars defeated Al Hilal Benghazi in post match penalties. Smouha, based in Alexandria reached the Confederation Cup after finshing third in the Egyptian Premier League last season and jumped to the round of 32 thanks to the draw. Ulinzi Stars beat Al Hilal 1-0 in the return match taking the score to a 1-1 on aggregate and sending the tie into penalties which they won.
Smouha will host the first leg match in Alexandria on weekend of March 10-12 while the second leg will be in Kenya and is set to be held between 17 and 19 March.
Elsewhere, Kenya Premier League champions, Tusker were sent crashing out of the CAF Champions League preliminary round after losing 2-1 to Mauritius side, AS Port Louis 2000. The result on Sunday saw the Brewers crash out 3-2 on aggregate as the first leg had ended 1-1 in Nairobi a week ago. Ephrem Guikan was the hero for the hosts with a quickfire brace that dashed Tusker’s hopes of progress against the Mauritius side. The Mauritius side will now meet Sudan’ s Al Hilal in the first round.
In the meantime, CAF mandarins are expected in the country today to start inspections on match venues that will go a long way to determine whether Kenya will host next year’s African Nations Championships. During the meeting held over the weekend at Moi, Kasarani and chaired by FKF president Nick Mwendwa, the LOC discussed a wide range of issues touching on the country’s level of preparedness and the upcoming Caf inspector’s visit scheduled for between today and Friday.
