The NPCA T20 League wound up its third week with reinvigorated energy that saw big wins for Kanbis Sports Club, Stray Lions Cricket club, Nairobi Gymkhana and Premier Club in today’s Super League matches. Table toppers Swamibapa Sports Club left Eastleigh High School shell-shocked after a whooping 65-run loss at the hands of Kanbis Sports Club.
Kanbis bounced back from their loss to Gymkhana last week to put up 8/164 after electing to bat, star batsmen Rakep Patel top scoring with a 28-ball 45 inclusive of six boundaries and a sole maximum. Rallying behind Patel’s efforts was Vinod Rabadia (34) who put up a 47-run stand with Rajesh Varsani (21) for the fifth wicket. Dhiren Gondaria was dismissed on 23 runs off 12 balls opening the innings for Kanbis.
In a bid to wrap up victory in a huff, Swamibapa found themselves in the thick end, with only 99 runs on the board as their innings ended in 19 overs. The bizarre innings had only Rikesh Kahar (34) and Nicholas Oluoch (16) attain double figures, with wickets falling ever so often without a considerable partnership after the 31-run second wicket stand between the two.
Top performers with the ball for Kanbis included Gautam Bhudia (3/17), Rajesh Bhudia (2/27) and Ramesh Mepani (2/02 off one over). Elijah Otieno’s 3/33 was the pick of the bowlers for Swamibapa, in spite of having conceded the most number of runs in the innings.
After jostling for a change in venues, Stray Lions Sports Club finally hosted Premier Club at Sikh Union Club, beating them by six wickets.
Carrying on a fine bowling and fielding performance from yesterday’s match, Stray Lions combined to rack up Premier Club for 106 runs in 19.1 overs. Pavan Patel top scored with a 19-ball 28 inclusive of a boundary and two sixes, followed by Part Patel (27) and Jatin Patel (18).
Hiren Varaiya led the bowling attack for the hosts with 3/21 while Varun Prakash picked 2/26. Sandeep Patel bagged 2/20 off his three overs for Premier Club.
Stray Lions wrapped up victory in 12.1 overs, picking up their third bonus point in as many matches. The top batsmen manged identical figures of 24; Collins Obuya scoring at the top while Praveen Kumar and Bilal Habib remained unbeaten.
Nairobi Gymkhana keep proving unstoppable after they nailed down their third consecutive victory in the form of Ruaraka Sports Club by a mammoth 107 runs.
Electing to bat, Gymkhana were fueled to 4/192 by Irfan Karim’s second half century in only three outings. Karim (82) added 45-runs alongside Karan Kaul (33) before the latter was fashionably run out by Vijesh Pindoria to break the third wicket partnership.
Karim departed with the board on 140 runs, leaving Prashant Srinivas (27) and Lucas Oluoch (24) to add an unbeaten 52 runs to the fifth wicket.
Ruaraka were toothless in their pursuit of the target, getting bowled out on 85 runs with only two balls to spare off their innings. Vinit Shikotra high-tailed their batting collapse with the second five-fer of the season (5/10) while Peterson Kamau paced his way to 2/19 off his three overs.
Earlier, Amit Shukla picked 2/14 from Gymkhana’s batting order. In the sole morning match, Premier Club came out tops by one run in a low key thriller against SCLPS.
Electing to bat, Premier Club were bowled out for 95 runs in 18.4 overs, their middle order batsmen namely; Sandeep Patel, Nikil Patel and Pavan Patel stitching the innings with triplicate scores of 17.
Starring with the ball for SCLPS included Ravikant Khetani (3/12), Rashmin Bhuva (2/17) and Harshid Varsani (2/20). In reply, Samaj were halted just a run short of equalizing the score as Chirag Pindoria (35) ran out of partners to back up his score after he was caught and bowled by Jigar Patel with the score on 63.
Jigar Patel finished on 4/18 as Amish Amin picked 2/16.
