Kenya’s men and women’s national hockey teams kicked off their campaign in the 2017 Hockey African Cup for Nations in undesirable fashion after losing 3-0 (Men) and 5-0 (women) to Ghana and South Africa respectively on Sunday October 22 in Egypt.
The men fell behind after just four minutes, with Ghana’s Damalie his side the lead before Akaba made it two in the 33rd minute. Akuamoah-Boateng then scored twelve minutes later to wrap up a 3-0 victory for his side.
They now shift focus to Monday’s match against Egypt which will be followed by duels against Nigeria and South Africa
In the women’s category, South Africa continued their dominance over Kenya with a huge 5-0 that shot them to the top of the table, two points ahead of second placed Egypt and third placed Nigeria who are second and third respectively with a point each.
Kenya will now search for their first win on October 23 against Ghana beofre summing up their group matches against Nigeria, Zambia and Egypt.
