Butali in a double win to maintain pole position

They beat Mvita 2-1 but were held 1-1 by Mombasa Sports Club on Sunday.

Butali Sugar Warriors posted an identical 5-0 win over Park Road and Sikh Union, Nairobi on Saturday and Sunday to maintain their lead at the top of the Kenya Hockey Union men’s Premier eagle table.┬áTheir challengers Kenya Police had mixed results. They beat Mvita 2-1 but were held 1-1 by Mombasa Sports Club on Sunday.

United States International University-Africa also won their two matches at the weekend and eased to the third spot on the table. On Saturday, they beat Sikh Union, Nairobi 4-2 and followed this up with a 3-0 win over Park Road on Sunday.

With 10 goals, Butali were the biggest winners at the weekend. They set the pace on Saturday by beating Park Road 5-0.

In this match, Emmanuel Simiyu opened the account in the 15th minute and Frank Wanangwe doubled the scores four minutes later for a 2-0 lead at halftime.

On resumption, Butali appeared to have slowed down and only exploded in the last 15 minute when they scored three goals. Brian Musasia (54th), Maxwell Fuchaka (59th) and Barnabas Odhiambo (60th) scored for Butali.

They continued from where they left on Sunday meting the same treatment to Sikh Union, Nairobi. The goal scorers in this match were Vincent Odhiambo (12th), Barnabas Odhiambo (26), Seth Oburu (36), Wanangwe (39th) and Zack Aura (40).

Equally successful were USIU-A who scored seven goals and conceded two. In the match against Sikh Union, Nairobi on Saturday, Lawrence Okubasu scored three goals (33, 39, 42nd minutes) with Brian Makokha adding the fourth in the 67th minutes.

Sikh Union, Nairobi replied with tow goals through Shabaz Ali (25th) and Allan Iningu (56th).

USIU-A kept a clean sheet on Saturday against Park Road.

In the national league, Chase Sailors cemented their lead in Pool A by beating Thika Rovers 4-1. George Mutira scored twice in the 18th and 50th minutes while Jason Parson (64) and Francis Esikuri (69) added one goal each.

After the matches at the weekend, Butali who have played 17 matches opened a narrow one-point lead against Kenya Police. There is a tight race in the following seven slots where the difference is only one point with a tie between Green Sharks and Sikh Union, Nairobi who have 28 points each. USIU-A (31), Wazalendo (30), Park Road (29) complete the top five slots.

In the National League, Chase Sailors have opened a seven-point lead in Pool A. They have 28 points from 10 matches Park Road Tigers (21) and Wazalendo Youth 17) are second and third. There were no matches in Pool B where Bay Club (20), Kisumu Youngsters (19) and Dedan Kimathi University (17) occupy the first three places.

Telkom Orange occupy a familiar top slot in the women’s Premier League. Strathmore University who were awarded a walkover against JKUAT are second with 34 points and Sliders third on 29 points.
