AFC Leopards walks off pitch in Awendo as league tie aborts

Soter Kayumba celebrates an Ingwe goal

AFC Leopards SC walked out of the rescheduled tie with Sony Sugar in Awendo on Monday and refused to play.

The match had been rescheduled to Monday 10 am after their match was rained off on Sunday afternoon on 63 minutes. The team manager Tom Juma wrote a protest letter to match day officers citing lack of proper medical equipment since the ambulance was ill equipped and that there was insufficient security detail at the venue.\

Despite the officials and Sony insisting the match goes on, Leopards refused to play until all was sorted. There was slight chaos as Sony fans held Leopards’ players on the field for close to an hour refusing them to exit the venue.

KPL CEO Jack Oguda has said the league will await the match report before making any final decision on why the match did not go on as planned.
