Battle for the last spot of this year’s CECAFA Senior Challenge finals goes down on Friday December 15, 2017, with defending champions Uganda taking on Zanzibar at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu from 15:00.

Zanzibar

Zanzibar have been the surprise package in the tournament so far as not many thought that the team would reach this far. The Heroes kicked off their campaign with a 3-1 win over Rwanda before seeing off their brothers Tanzania 2-1.

They then held hosts Kenya to a barren draw but lost 1-0 to Libya in their final Group A match. The performance saw them finish second in the group and were as a result paired against Uganda in the semifinals.

Going into the match, The Suleiman ‘Morocco’ coached side will be without key figures as forward Suleiman Khamis and midfielder Amour Suleiman “Pwina” have been ruled out of the tie due to injuries. They will also be without left-back Mwinyi Haji Ngwali, who has picked up two yellow cards and is thus suspended for the match.

Uganda

Uganda will meanwhile be hoping to reach the second successive final in the tourney with a view of reclaiming the title they won in back in 2015.

The Cranes registered a 0-0 draw against Burndi in their first Group B match before walloping South Sudan 5-1 . They then followed up the win with a 1-1 draw against Ethiopia to finish top of the group.

They are currently the side that has scored most goals in the tournament with six.

The team coached by Moses Basena will be without the duo of Isaac Muleme and Timothy Awany, who were show red cards in the match against Ethiopia.

The winner of the match will face Kenya in the finals slated for Sunday December 17 at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
